Google has launched a new section called "Playables" on YouTube, offering a selection of free-to-play games. This experimental feature is being gradually introduced on Android, iOS, and the web exclusively for Premium membership holders.

The incorporation of Playables seems to be Google's strategy to enhance the perks of the subscription model and elevate its appeal to users. This move is anticipated to potentially expand Google's paid membership base and drive increased revenue to the platform.

To access Playables, users need to activate the experimental feature from a specific page. Once enabled, a Playables shelf can be found by scrolling through the Home section or via the Playables link within the Explore menu on desktop and mobile devices. The feature currently hosts 37 games, such as 8 Ball Billiards Classic, Angry Birds Showdown, Carrom Clash, and The Daily Crossword, allowing instant gameplay without the need for downloads.

As an experimental feature, Google has announced that Playables will be available until March 28, 2024. The future permanence of Playables on the platform hinges on user interest, which might influence Google's decision to extend or discontinue the feature.

Notably, Netflix introduced a similar gaming feature in 2021, initially limited to Android and iOS but later expanded to TVs and the web, aiming to enrich its appeal and value for subscribers.
