YouTube Music is reportedly working on a new upgrade that might let users upload their custom images for playlist thumbnails. The audio-streaming platform already provides its users with the ability to generate AI art for playlist thumbnails.
Using custom images for YouTube playlist thumbnail
As spotted by a Reddit user named SimSamurai13, the audio streaming platform has added a new option to upload custom playlist thumbnails.
The user also spotted a new pencil icon present at the bottom-right corner of the app when viewing a playlist on the YouTube Music web version.

The pencil icon lets users choose between two options available, including "Choose from library" and "Remove custom image."
The "Choose from library" option allows users to select an image from their PCs and adjust it by cropping it to fit as a thumbnail. It takes a few seconds to update the thumbnail.
It appears that the ability to personalise their YouTube Music playlist has been a highly-requested feature by those who don't like the AI-generated artwork.
However, it’s uncertain whether this feature will be available for the Liked Music playlist, as the AI generator also doesn't work for it.
Currently, the feature is available to a limited number of users and there is no official word from the audio streaming platform about the wider rollout.
