The Internet is full of misinformation and fake news, and to fight against it, YouTube in June announced that it is testing a new feature where users can add notes to the videos in order to fix any misleading information.

Before, X (formerly called Twitter) had Community Notes that allowed users to provide information under a misleading or confusing post to clarify it. It also provides links to offer additional context being a valuable addition to stop the spread of misinformation.

Google in June announced a similar feature for YouTube and therefore, YouTube is sending invitations to the pilot program for this feature that would allow users to submit a note to clarify any video they find “confusing or accurate.”

Other users in the program will also be able to review those contributions, and if a note gets approved, it appears directly underneath the video and can include timestamps for the video itself.

For users in the program, an “Add note” button will appear under videos where a note can be written and then submitted. The name of the person or channel that submitted the note is left out if it is published.

YouTube further explained that this feature only works on mobile right now, and it is being tested with a “limited number of eligible contributors,” and is likely to be rolled out in the upcoming week.
