YouTube TV background play feature

The background play feature has been one of the most used features on YouTube. However, for some time the video-streaming platform locked it behind YouTube’s Premium subscription.

With the ability to listen in the background, the feature allows users to lock their devices or leave the app while the audio still plays in the background.

It provides users with the flexibility to multitask or listen to content while focusing on other activities. However, one needs to pay for a subscription to YouTube TV to be able to have their favourite shows play in the background whenever they please.

This feature could be helpful in situations, for instance, if a user is following a live sports match and is also on his way to attend a meeting, he can keep hearing the real-time updates of the game while driving safely.

Additionally, some Reddit users suggested that YouTube TV on Android and iOS has added a background play feature. While some users have already got access to this feature on their devices others are still anticipating its arrival.

Reportedly, many users have successfully tested the availability of the feature on the YouTube TV app for Android. However, it was not available immediately on iOS devices. Once rolled out all YouTube TV subscribers can enjoy the perks of background play.
