YouTube TV for Android is getting a new picture-in-picture (PiP) mini-player. Interestingly, the new PiP mini-player is similar to the one that earlier sparked controversy on the main YouTube app.
According to 9to5Google, the new mini-player is now available with version 8.47.0 of the YouTube TV Android app.
PiP-style mini-player on YouTube TV for Android
The YouTube TV mini-player features a range of controls, including play/pause, 15-second rewind and forward buttons, and a close button. Moreover, users can pinch to zoom the window.
This update comes as a surprise move as the main YouTube app faced backlash for introducing a similar PiP mini-player, which was rolled out in July.
While many users didn’t mind the new design, it was met with criticism from users who experienced glitches and preferred the old design.
Therefore, as a response to user feedback, YouTube recently reverted to its original design, with a stationary mini-player present at the bottom of the app.
Notably, many users welcomed this change, expressing relief at the return of the old mini-player. However, it remains to be seen how YouTube TV users will react to this new PiP mini-player.
