After taking its “Jump ahead” feature through the testing phase two months ago, YouTube is now up to ensure its wider availability by exclusively offering it to premium users of the platform through youtube.com/new.

Developed with great care of users' preferences and demands, the purpose of the feature is time-saving as it jumps to where majority of the viewers skipped ahead to.

How does YouTube's new AI feature work?

When a user double taps on the screen to skip ahead 10 seconds of a YouTube video, Jump Ahead button — a pill-shaped button — appears for a few seconds in the bottom-right corner and disappears if not used.

After tapping on the Jump Ahead button, users will get a “Jumping over commonly skipped section” overlay labelled by YouTube Premium, like “Premium controls.”

To figure out the next best point of interest for users, analyse watching data and for the sake of this feature's efficiently functionality, the video streaming giant is reportedly utilising artificial intelligence (AI).

The feature was termed as a “very small experiment” when the company was mulling over this capability, granting it to a handful of random users. On the contrary, this feature is now being expanded widely through the youtube.com/new experiments page, which is only visible in the mobile client: Settings > Try experimental new features.
